South Central Chapter Meeting (In-Person Only) FSU Planetarium, Dark Side of the Moon, and Programs at FSU
Date: February 12, 2026 Time: 11:30 am to 1:00 pm Location: Fayetteville State University Planetarium, 1200 Murchison Rd, Fayetteville, NC 28301 In-person only Cost: $20 includes box lunch Lunch will start at 11:30 am in the lobby of the planetarium. Registration will be limited to 25 people due to space constraints. PDH: 1 More specific details regarding parking and location will be provided 1 week prior to the event. Joseph W. Kabbes, M.S. Lecturer/Planetarium Manager, Fayetteville State University Presenter Bio: Mr. Kabbes is an instructor of Astronomy in the Department of Chemistry
and Physics at Fayetteville State University. He is also the manager of
the FSU Planetarium and Observatory and is very active in STEM outreach
and informal education in the Fayetteville region. Mr. Kabbes received
his masters in astronomy from James Cook University in 2008 and taught
at Harper College in Palatine, IL where he managed the Karl G. Henize
Observatory. Mr. Kabbes joined FSU in the fall of 2017. Prior to FSU,
he also worked as a software engineer for over 30 years. Lunch will be followed by a short presentation on some of the different technical studies, research, and programs taking place on the FSU campus, and opportunities to hire interns or graduates. The program will end with an opportunity to see a short planetarium presentation at the recently updated FSU planetarium, which now has one of the highest pixels per square inch ten-projector system in the United States. The presentation will be a portion of the Dark Side of the Moon Pink Floyd produced video which is currently showing at the FSU planetarium most Friday nights through June. Note: While PENC offers Professional Development Credit for this program, it is up to each Professional Engineer to determine if the content is relevant to his/her individual practice and suitable for his/her continuing education.
