This session will focus on how to become a better facilitator and communicator of root cause analysis. The backdrop will be case examples from the presenter's experience throughout the country. The case examples include the failure of a 20-megawatt power generation unit, a water treatment plant, air handling units at a confidential research facility, a bridge collapse, and a customer billing system.

The session agenda will include three primary components:

• Fundamentals of root cause analysis
• Five ways to be a better facilitator of root cause analysis
• A proven approach for communicating results to executive leadership

The session is important because it covers aspects of engineering and root cause analysis that receive little formal attention. The session will be provided at the beginner level. It applies to the full range of PENC members.

Engineers are great problem solvers. However, we are often challenged when leading collaborative efforts and communicating sensitive, complex information to decision makers. This entertaining session will provide key tips and pointers for being more effective when the stakes are high!
