The North Carolina State Ports Authority (NCSPA) achieves annual cost savings of approximately $1 million using a Water Injection Dredging (WID). This method eliminates the need for traditional dredging processes that involve the removal, transportation, dewatering, handling, and storage of dredged material. Instead, WID leverages natural waterway currents to move sediment, significantly reducing operational costs. The NCSPA's adoption of WID has streamlined maintenance dredging, allowing for more efficient sediment management, and reducing reliance on external dredging services. This presentation will describe this journey and demonstrate how this is repeatable at other ports throughout the US.
