Program: IEEE MOVE Disaster Relief and Outreach Program

Starting in March 2016 with one truck, MOVE-1, and many dedicated IEEE MOVE volunteers, the IEEE MOVE (Mobile Outreach Vehicle) Disaster Relief and Outreach Program has provided communication support, electrical power, and technical assistance in partnership with the America Red Cross at most hurricane and flood disasters over the entire United States for the last 10 years. As of 2025 IEEE MOVE now has three trucks in service and several portable modular communication platforms. IEEE MOVE has helped thousands and thousands of people during these times of need providing reliable communications and electrical power. In addition to the disaster relief IEEE MOVE teams provide community outreach and facilitate STEM learning for students. This presentation will provide an update on the history and future plans for the IEEE MOVE program.

Presenter: Mary Ellen Randall – IEEE President and CEO
Mary Ellen has held technical and management positions in IBM where she managed hardware and software projects on an international scale. Over the years she has served on many IEEE boards and has held many positions within IEEE. Mary Ellen is the creator and developer of the IEEE MOVE International Community Outreach Program for disaster relief and STEM education. She is an IEEE Life Follow and member of the IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu honor society. Mary Ellen holds a M.S. in Computer Science and a B.S. in Mathematics from Binghamton University.
