Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Keeps Pitt County Warm and Costs Down Join ECC PENC for insight of how GUC uses Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) to support natural gas customers across Pitt County. GUC operates North Carolina’s first municipally owned LNG peak shaving plant, first built in 1997 as part of a strategy to ensure reliable natural gas supply and control costs during periods of high demand. The facility has been expanded four times and stores LNG — natural gas cooled to -260°F — in eight 50,000 – 70,000-gallon tanks During peak usage, LNG is vaporized, odorized, and injected into the distribution system. This approach allows GUC to purchase gas when market prices are favorable, store it, and use it when needed, reducing dependence on external suppliers and enhancing system reliability. Including will be a tour of the LNG Peak Shaving Facility, please wear close-toed shoes and be prepared to walk on uneven surfaces. Presenters: ECC PENC’s Own! F.
