MATHCOUNTS (http://mathcounts.org/) is a national math competition, now celebrating its 41st year, which promotes middle school mathematics achievement through grassroots involvement in every U.S. state and territory. MATHCOUNTS promotes student interest in mathematics by making math achievement as challenging, exciting, and prestigious as a school sport. After several months of coaching, the over 6,300 participating schools select students to compete in one of the more than 500 written and oral competitions held nationwide, including here in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area.

MATHCOUNTS participants are high achievers with nearly 45 percent reporting a combined SAT score of 1500 or above. In a recent survey of past competitors, the top three college majors chosen were engineering, mathematics, and computer science. The Triangle Chapter MATHCOUNTS is funded solely with local contributions. Your generous support is needed and your donation is used to:

• Provide lunch to competitors
• Purchase prizes and awards
• Provide T-shirts to all competitors
• Fund competitor travel to state-level competition
