Program Overview:
Participants will get an understanding of what happens when their local recycle bins get emptied and ultimately end up at this recycling center. They will get a better understanding of the economics involved in recycling as well as the vast sorting capabilities of the facility. The various material components (glass, metal, paper, etc.) all have unique characteristics that was taken into consideration of the design of the sorting facility and will be discussed. After a presentation and background info, participants will go on a tour of the facility to see the sorting in action. Speaker: Terry Feeney Terry grew up and went to college in Southern California. Moved to Fort Worth Tx and started a career with Waste Management. Promoted from a route supervisor who oversaw collection to Recycle Facility Supervisor leading operation of facility management in Dallas. Terry moved to Winston Salem in 2000 to operate the old recycling center in Northeast Winston Salem which we considered a dual stream operation, meaning the bins were separated at the curb into the truck in a fiber and non-fiber compartment. Opened this single stream facility in 2012 to have a more automated, efficient recycling operation.
