Program: State-of-the-Art Wind Power Farm Construction and Operation
Currently wind power produces about 10% of the electrical power in the United States and is the largest source of renewable energy in the USA exceeding that of solar and water. This is due to state-of-the-art modern wind power farms being continually build and put into operation. The Cimarron Bend Wind Farm located in Clark County, Kansas with an operating capacity of 599.46 MW is currently one of the 15 largest wind projects in the USA. Built and put into operation in the last 5 years this wind farm uses state-of-the-art modern wind power equipment. This presentation will discuss the construction and operation of a large modern wind farm.
Presenter: Dewain (D.J.) Pfaff, Operations Supervisor, Cimarron Bend Wind, Enel Green Power North America, Inc., Minneola, KS
Dewain has worked in the wind power industry since 2008. Starting as a entry level wind power technician and progressing up to a senior level technician after about 5 years. In 2013, I joined the Enel management team at a site called Buffalo Dunes, just south of Garden City, KS about 50 miles from the Cimarron Bend location. In late 2016, the Cimarron Bend Wind Farm construction was underway, and Dewain transferred to the Cimarron Bend project to be involved with the project during construction, startup, and operation. Dewain oversees the day to day operation and maintenance of the entire project that consists of a total of 273 wind mills that require a crew of about 50 technicians to provide operation and maintenance for the wind farm. 1 PDH Meeting Link
