Professional Engineers of North Carolina is dedicated to meeting the needs of engineers of all disciplines. Advocacy: Through membership in PENC, you have a voice in our state capitol through our government relations efforts. Premium members benefit from advocacy at the national level through membership in the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE).
Continuing Education: In addition to advocacy, PENC provides opportunities for engineers to earn professional development hours through chapter meetings, regional and statewide conferences and seminars, webinars and online courses. Premium members also benefit from professional development opportunities through NSPE.
News of the Profession: Regular newsletters and updates from statewide and chapter leadership keep PENC members informed about association issues and events. Premium members also receive the popular daily E-news series from NSPE – Daily Designs as well as NSPE’s monthly PE Magazine.
Career Center: PENC’s career center provides valuable resources for engineers looking for new opportunities, and for firms seeking to hire qualified professionals.
Community Outreach: PENC’s Community Outreach efforts, such as MATHCOUNTS, Future City Competition, National E-Week and JETS promote the sustainability of the engineering profession, through educational initiatives that prepare young students for their careers. Scholarships, student chapters, and the Student Mentoring Program demonstrate PENC’s support of engineering education at the university level.

Types of Membership
Whether you are a licensed PE, a non-licensed engineer, a student, a retired engineer, unemployed or living out of state, PENC offers a wide variety of membership options to serve engineers at any place in their careers.
Premium Member: Includes membership in NSPE, PENC and your local chapter. Must be a licensed PE in the U.S. or Canada (or the international equivalent), or on a licensure track.
State-Only Associate Member: Includes membership in PENC and your local chapter. Must be a licensed PE in the U.S. or Canada (or the international equivalent), or on a licensure track.
Recent Graduate: Includes membership in NSPE, PENC and your local chapter. Must have graduated in the past 5 years from a full-time ABET-accredited graduate or undergraduate engineering program.
Student: Includes membership in NSPE, PENC and your local chapter. Must be enrolled full-time in a ABET-accredited engineering program or an engineering program that has an articulated or transfer agreement with an ABET-accredited program.
Non-Engineer Associate: Includes membership in PENC and your local chapter. Must have attained an Associates degree or higher in engineering, engineering technology or an engineering related field.
