PENC Legislative & Government Affairs
PENC has a three-pronged approach to protecting the interests of engineers: public policy advocacy and lobbying, contributing to an informed and involved engineering population, and a supporting Political Action Committee.
On Capitol Hill and in the NC state legislature, NSPE and PENC are the voice for America's licensed engineers and other engineering professionals. Through independent initiatives and coalitions, NSPE's advocacy efforts target engineering licensure, professional liability and tort reform, infrastructure, construction job site safety, procurement of engineering services, professional standards, engineering education and research, and the environment.
The idea that engineers should be informed, politically active citizens is a guiding value of our organization. Regular Legislative Updates keep our members informed of pertinent legislative activity, and the PENC Legislative Action Center allows our members to contact their legislators and track legislation of interest. Through events like Engineers Meet the Candidates (held in election years) and Engineer's Day at the Legislature, PENC encourages its members to become more involved in representing their own interests.
Through its Political Action Committee, (NSPE-PAC and E-PAC) NSPE and PENC contribute to candidates for federal office who support public health and safety and represent the best interests of engineering professionals.
